TOM COUGHLIN: CRUZ’S CONTRACT SITUATION ‘A CONCERN’ -

In a recent interview, New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was asked about WR Victor Cruz’s contract situation. Many thought that by now, both sides would have come to agreement on a… new deal, but that has yet to happen. “It has to be a concern because when the restricted free agency period is over, you would hope that things would move fast,” Coughlin said Monday on WFAN, via the New York Post. “What we want is exactly what I said the other day. We want a win-win. We want Victor to be proud to be a New York Giant, proud of his contract.” Cruz has yet to sign his $2.8 million contract tender. He reportedly had been seeking a new contract in the $10 million-per-season range, while the Giants’ number is closer to $7 million. “We are not mad at Victor,” general manager Jerry Reese said Monday, via ESPNNewYork.com. “Victor is not upset with us. It’s just business. And we are hoping things work out.” “The New York Giants want him back as badly as we’ve ever wanted anybody,” Coughlin said, “And so we like the thing to be settled and over with and we wish it would be that way so that he could be in here working with the quarterback in the offseason. And the sooner it gets settled, the better off we will be.” (Photo via Zimbio.com)

J-Sp0t: Victor Cruz is a no-show for Giants workouts →

j-sp0t:

Justin Tuck expected teammate Victor Cruz to be present when the New York Giants’ voluntary offseason conditioning started on Monday. There was never a good reason to believe the restricted free agent would report, though.

Cruz failed to show Monday, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Having yet to sign his $2.879 million tender, Cruz has no reason to risk injury in workouts. Although teams have until Friday to sign him to an offer sheet, Cruz reportedly has told his agents not to court interest because he wants to remain with the Giants on a long-term deal
